Many customers take minor defects in products and blow them all out of proportion in order to garner maximum sympathy for their plight. A tiny scratch on a $50 wallet becomes a chasm. A minuscule nick on the side of a piece of furniture becomes an axe mark. Anything to bring a little $5-$10 refund up to $250. While it may be true that sometimes things get that bad, it certainly can't happen as much as the customer says it does. Someone, somewhere, has to be making a mountain out of the proverbial molehill.

They can also make a minor annoyance into an epic catastrophe.

Example:

  • "I've called you guys a million times about this! I deserve to get some kind of compensation." And the notes say they actually called twice.
